Would you like a cargo bike, but don't want to spend a fortune for one? Would you like to build your own cargo bike, but don't know how? Then you've come to the right place!

In our two-day workshops, you will build your own cargo bike over a weekend under our guidance. You don't need any prior knowledge, such as welding – if you've ever held a screwdriver in your hand, you're qualified for the workshop.

To participate in a workshop, you must register at least one week in advance! You also need to take care of the necessary parts (you will receive a parts list after registering).

The workshop usually lasts a whole weekend (Saturday to Sunday) from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Before the workshop, we will meet once to discuss the parts you will need.

It is best if at least two of you build a cargo bike together, as it is more fun that way and it is helpful to have a third (or fourth!) hand for some of the steps ;)

Upcoming workshops

18.7. and 19.7. from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. @ Flickwerke Gorbitz

Our cargo bike models at a glance

Here you will find the models that we currently offer for construction in our workshops. If you would like to participate in a workshop, you will need to choose a model here. We will then discuss the necessary parts together so that you can go hunting for them!

Müllfix

“Built from trash to collect new trash!”

That's how Christian Kuhtz, the developer of this model, describes this small cargo bike. In fact, a Müllfix can sometimes be built in a single day, and despite its simplicity, it opens up completely new mobility options: Need to pick up two crates of drinks? No problem! The Müllfix really shines when it comes to everyday errands! As the name suggests, no expensive materials are needed to build it, and it requires very little technical skill.

You can read the building instructions in the booklet on cargo bikes in the “Einfälle statt Abfälle” series by Christian Kuhtz. It is available at Rostiges Ross.

Cargo - Longtail

The big sister of the Müllfix cargo bike comes in a longtail version, meaning it has a longer wheelbase at the rear. This provides more than twice the loading capacity, allowing you to transport virtually everything you need for your daily errands.

The Longtail can hold up to four beverage crates or two vegetable crates. Or maybe you need to quickly pick someone up from the train station? No problem! Thanks to its long wheelbase, the cargo bike rides safely and smoothly even when loaded.

However, due to its length, the Longtail is not so easy to maneuver into a basement storage compartment, so a covered, ground-level parking space is recommended.

Kids - Longtail

We are currently working on a workshop-ready version of a longtail cargo bike for transporting children and passengers. If you are interested, please contact us at lastenrad@reparad.de!

Paletti

Weekly shopping for your shared apartment, transporting a washing machine or loudspeaker to a demonstration by bike? No problem if you have the right trailer! We took a look at the Carla Cargo trailer from Freiburg and tried to replicate it as simply as possible using scrap materials. The result is a pallet trailer that can easily carry over 100 kg and is still safe to drive thanks to its overrun brake.

In the style of Christian Kuhtz's Müllfix, the trailer consists of an old Euro pallet, some bicycle scrap, and a few pipes that are screwed together to form a heavy-duty trailer. You will receive a detailed parts list during registration.

Parklet

Did you know that on average, a car spends around 23 hours a day just standing around? In urban areas in particular, a lot of space is effectively privatized when private cars are parked in public spaces, meaning that this space can no longer be used by anyone else!

Our parklet is an enlarged Paletti that can be placed on a parking space to make this space usable again for everyone. It can then be used for seating, plants, or as a stage for a street concert, for example!

Interested?

Then write to us so we can plan your parklet together!

Who we are

We are a small group who regularly hold workshops on building your own cargo bikes and trailers. The workshops last a weekend, and afterwards you can ride home on your own cargo bike! Are you interested in participating or offering the workshops in your city/workshop? Then get in touch at lastenrad@reparad.de!
