You can repair almost anything on your bike here. You have access to lots of tools and our help, as well as countless used and some new parts. You can find an incomplete list of the tools available under Equipment.
Usually we also have a couple bikeframes and half-working bikes that can become your bike building project! If you are excited to compile and screw your bike from tire to saddle, talk to us and we check if we have something suitable. You can build it up with our help during opening hours und 1-1 screwing help. Especially in winter we have a lot of time for you. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee that there is storage space between the building sessions for your project.
About E-Bikes
Many delivery firms abuse the situation of their employees by paying very little and requiring them to use their own bikes. Hence the delivery riders buy very cheap E-Bikes which are practically non-repairable because they have bad and often badly assembled components. Hence we do not like it.
Additionally by trying to help we would support the abuse by the companies and be abused ourselves. Hence we do not do it.
Better solution: organize in Unions! For example the Union NGG.
A brief history
The Radi.O. self-help workshop was founded in 1990 or 1991 by a group of dedicated students during the turmoil following the fall of the Berlin Wall. Of course, none of the current tinkerers were involved at that time, which is why the exact date of its founding has been lost in the mists of time.
The first home was in the old Stura shanties behind the lecture hall center, which has long since been torn down. Back then, we were part of TUUWI (TU Environmental Initiative).
Later, the workshop was located in shanties next to the sports field on Zelleschen Weg (where the SLUB is today), and in 1997 we moved to Wundtstraße, first to Wu9 and then to Wu1 for a few years.
After the dormitory was renovated, we were allowed to move back in and moved into our current premises, which are very luxurious compared to before. The workshop and spare parts warehouse are now reasonably separate, and we even have a washroom (sanitary experience area).
